The Polar Geospatial Center (PGC) at the University of Minnesota seeks
applications for the positon of Geospatial Developer. This full-time
position will work with the Product Development team and will be located
on the University of Minnesota Saint Paul campus in Saint Paul,
Minnesota.
This position will be responsible for building and maintaining imagery
processing workflows, coordinating data production, and managing High
Performance Computing (HPC) resources and projects. The successful
candidate is expected to develop new tools for image processing and
analysis as well as update and maintain legacy projects.
The successful candidate must be able to multi-task and work on a
variety of Geographic Information System (GIS)/remote sensing and coding
projects both independently and in collaboration with others.
Required qualifications include:
- An advanced degree with one or more years of research training in
computer science, software engineering, remote sensing, or a related
field; - Experience in Python or a related programming language;
- Familiarity with Lines command line systems;
- Experience with geospatial software and analysis; and
- Command of GIS/remote sensing fundamentals and concepts.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Two or more years of experience with geospatial programming,
- Experience interacting with HPC systems,
- Experience using the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL/OGR)
and Arcpy libraries, - Experience with testing framework,
- Strong problem-solving skills, and
- The ability to learn quickly.
