The National Weather Service (NWS) Alaska Anchorage Weather Forecasting Office invites applications for the position of Physical Scientist/Sea Ice Analyst. This permanent, full-time position will be located at the Weather Forecasting Office in Anchorage, Alaska.
The successful candidate will perform the following duties: - Serve as the local expert in sea ice and sea surface temperature analysis and forecasting, - Transfer new and emerging science and technologies and techniques into the Sea Ice Program, and - Collaborate with the Arctic Testbed and Proving Ground and provide Impact-Based Decision Support (IDSS) to a variety of deep core partners and stakeholders.
Occasional travel may be required.
Basic qualifications include a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. In lieu of a degree, a combination of education and experience may be substituted, with education equivalent to one of the majors listed previously that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
