The Oil Spill Recovery Institute (OSRI) invites proposals for three opportunities, including a graduate research fellowship in marine oil spill in the Arctic and subarctic, food safety guidelines, and outreach.
The Graduate Research Fellowship is open to Masters or PhD students interested in topics related to marine oil spills in the Arctic and subarctic. Fellowships may be awarded in any field that addresses OSRI’s mission. OSRI is particularly interested in applications that examine the following areas of emphasis: toxicology, spill detection and tracking, improving spill response in sea ice, and degradation of oil. Applicants should examine the OSRI five-year research plan to learn more about OSRI’s research emphases.
OSRI is seeking proposals to collect materials necessary to develop food safety guidelines in support of the Alaska Regional Response Team. The successful applicant will be expected to work with state and federal agencies to collate information on existing policies to determine the pertinent authorities and what information they need to make decisions regarding closing and opening access to food items. The data needs in the existing policies need to be examined to identify information gaps so a plan can be developed to fill those gaps. The final product will be a report outlining current laws, state and federal authorities, data needs and gaps, and existing Federal On-Scene Coordinator authorities.
OSRI also seeks proposals to develop outreach materials that highlight accomplishments achieved through work supported by OSRI. OSRI seeks materials that can be used to inform various stakeholder groups. The products may include infographics, short video, brochures, animation, or other approaches appropriate for reaching audiences across Alaska.
