The Collaborative on Health and the Environment announces an upcoming webinar entitled State of the Science: Children's Environmental Health in Alaska and the Circumpolar North. This webinar will take place Wednesday, 31 January 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (9:00 a.m. Alaska Standard Time).
Webinar Summary:
Children in Alaska and the circumpolar north experience disproportionate exposures to toxic chemicals that may have long-term negative health consequences, such as neurodevelopmental effects, cancer, birth defects, metabolic disorders, and compromised immune systems. The webinar will include a summary of the scientific evidence linking environmental exposures and adverse health outcomes for children in the Arctic and how Alaskans are working to address these concerns, including how to help pass the Toxic-Free Children Act, state legislation that would ban ten of the most harmful chemical flame retardants from consumer products.
Featured speakers include:
- Sarah B. Petras - Author of the Alaska Community Action on Toxics (ACAT) report "State of the Science: Children's Environmental Health in Alaska and the Circumpolar North";
- Pam Miller - Executive Director of ACAT; and
- Samarys Seguinot: Environmental Health Program Director of ACAT.
