The Sitka Sound Science Center invites applications for two to three research fellowship in polar and sub-Arctic research. These fixed-term, one-month positions will be located in Sitka, Alaska.
The Polar Scientist in Residency Fellowship (SIRF) brings scientists annually to Sitka for one-month sabbaticals and offers several one-month fellowships for polar and subarctic scientists each year. The Fellowship is limited to U.S. citizens and is intended for mid-career scientists, not including graduate students.
SIRF Fellows must spend the full month in Sitka with one week largely assigned to outreach and education in the classroom (all grade levels) and/or community presentations. Fellows should be prepared for community engagement as the atmosphere in this rural coastal town is conducive to direct conversations and interactions. Fellows will be required to participate in science communication training to enhance their communication skills specific to rural Alaska.
