The University of Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral position in tundra energy fluxes at the pan-Arctic scale. This two-year position will be located in Zurich, Switzerland.
This project will assess the status of surface energy fluxes in the tundra biome and identify drivers through synthesizing existing pan-Arctic data. A further research focus will be the coupling of energy fluxes to other components of the system. Results will contribute to a better prediction of land surface feedbacks in the Arctic system. After a literature review of the status of tundra surface energy fluxes, the successful candidate will explore and analyze existing energy flux data at the pan-Arctic scale and involve the community to discuss the coupling with other components of the Arctic system.
This position requires a PhD in micrometeorology, remote sensing, climate sciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field. Data management and statistical skills are a requirement, as well as advanced communication skills at international level. The successful candidate will assist in the supervision of a related PhD project in the Siberian tundra which involves micrometeorological measurements and mechanistic modeling. Candidates may join in field campaigns at the field station in the Siberian tundra (https://eu-interact.org/field-sites/chokurdakh-scientific-tundra-statio…) running field experiments and handling instruments.
Applications should include:
- An application letter,
- A curriculum vitae, and
- Names and contact information for two references.
Applications must be submitted as one PDF file to maja.weilenmann [at] ieu.uzh.ch.
