The Faculty of Biogeosciences, Fisheries, and Economics at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for an Associate Professor in marine botany. This full-time, permanent position will be located at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, Norway.
The successful candidate will focus on marine pelagic primary producers, their ecology, and their functioning in the ecosystem. This position will include responsibilities for the development, structuring, and teaching of university courses in marine botany, with a focus on knowledge about algal species, biodiversity, and algal ecology from micro- to macroalgae.
This position will be responsible for individual courses. Teaching will include supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate student theses at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in ship-based and field-based research and/or teaching activities for several weeks each year.
Minimum requirements for this position include a Norwegian PhD degree in marine botany, marine biogeochemistry, or similar qualification. The successful applicant must have documented competence and interest in marine algal species, biodiversity, and ecology, including the determination of primary production. An interest in the role of algae as primary producers in northern and/or polar marine ecosystems is required. The research focus should be on microalgae, but teaching will include topics on micro- and macroalgae.
