The School of Marine and Environmental Affairs (SMEA) and the Department of American Indian Studies (AIS) at the University of Washington (UW) invite applications for an assistant professor position in relationships between health and environment in Arctic Indigenous communities. This tenure-track position will be located at UW in Seattle, Washington.

The successful candidate will teach courses and supervise students in SMEA and AIS. Teaching responsibilities will focus on development of courses to address social and environmental resilience in Arctic Indigenous communities under climate change, Arctic Indigenous environmental science and policy, health and well-being in Arctic Indigenous communities exposed to climate change, and/or sustainability in Indigenous communities.

This successful candidate will conduct empirical research focused on Arctic Indigenous health and well-being in the context of Arctic environmental change; sociocultural, economic, and environmental resilience in Arctic Indigenous communities; policy responses to promote well-being and resilience under climate change; or bridging Indigenous knowledges with western science to understand environmental change.

A PhD degree, or foreign equivalent degree, is required for this position. Relevant fields of expertise include, but are not limited to, population health, American Indian studies, Indigenous studies, Arctic studies, environmental sociology, political science, social psychology, anthropology, and human geography.
