The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) invites applications for a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for open science and synthesis projects, with an emphasis on community building, communications, and data science training for the Arctic Data Center. This full-time, permanent position will be located in Santa Barbara, California.
The successful candidate will support a national effort to coordinate community engagement around several projects run at NCEAS, including, but not limited to, the Arctic Data Center, Conservation Aquaculture Research Team, and the Science for Nature and People Partnership. Outreach activities will include representation of the projects through written communications, presentations, participation in meetings and conferences, webinars, exhibitor events, social media, and in the development of promotional and educational materials.
Qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, information science, communications, or a related field;
- Strong written and oral communication;
- Demonstrated skills in graphic design and visual communication; and
- Ability to organize information (e.g., web content) in a way that enhances accessibility and usability.
Additional desired qualifications include, but are not limited to, experience with community management or with community groups; expertise with internet-based communication technologies, including social media, new platforms for science publishing, video conferencing, web-based streaming, and web discussion platforms; experience with Arctic research and familiarity with the Arctic community; experience with survey and other assessment methodologies; experience with research in ecological, environmental, and/or sociological research; and ability to communicate complex scientific and computing information and concepts to a variety of audiences, including the general public;
