The University of Virginia’s (UVA) pan-University Environmental Resilience Institute (ERI) invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate for a new project in resilient urban water systems. This position will be located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The ERI is launching a Water Futures Initiative (WFI) to explore and develop new knowledge and solutions to a set of the most pressing challenges in the availability, quality, and allocation of water in local to global communities. This position is one of three offered by the WFI in each of three focus areas: water security, justice and politics; urban water; and coastal land margins. This position will be within a water security, justice, and politics project.
Applicants must have a PhD on a water-related topic in a discipline relevant to the desired working group. The successful candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team, with previous experience with interdisciplinary teams preferred; strong verbal and written communication of scientific results; strong emotional intelligence; and ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks.
Applicants should have strong skills in hydrological, watershed, and/or hydraulic modeling; geographic information systems¬–geospatial database development and analysis; and remote sensing. Preference will be given to applicants with skills in network analysis, machine learning, and infrastructure policy.
This is initially a one-year appointment; renewable for two additional six-month increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
