The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) invites applications for a Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator. This permanent, full-time position will be located in Santa Barbara, California.
The successful candidate will work across several projects run at NCEAS, including, but not limited to, the Arctic Data Center, Conservation Aquaculture Research Team (CART), and the Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP). In addition to the projects above, NCEAS leads, operates, and/or collaborates on many nationally-scoped research programs, including the Long-Term Ecological Research Network's Network Communications Office (NCO), the Ocean Health Index, and DataONE. The projected time allocation to these projects will initially focus on the Arctic Data Center and SNAPP, however the position will shift emphasis as the needs of the projects and Center change.
The Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator will support a national effort to coordinate community engagement around these projects. Outreach activities will include representation of the projects through written communications, presentations, participation in meetings and conferences, webinars, exhibitor events, social media, and in the development of promotional and educational materials. These activities focus on generating meaningful engagement of target communities, increasing awareness of the project, and soliciting feedback. Activities are designed to support users, build engagement, and develop a community of practice around the project.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in science, information science, communication, or a related field.
Applications must include a current curriculum vitae, cover letter describing qualifications and interest in the position, one or more examples from the applicant’s graphic design or visual communication portfolio, and names and contact information for three references.
