The Arctic River project invites applications for a Native Advisory Council position. This part-time, two-year position will be remotely located with potential meetings in Anchorage or Fairbanks, depending on COVID-19 status.
The Council will provide input and help the Project Team evaluate input from the broader community and make decisions about research design, output, and analysis. The Council will also help the Project Team establish protocols to protect Indigenous Knowledges and ensure the equitable co-production of knowledge and will lead the design of a two-day Arctic Rivers Summit scheduled to take place in Anchorage during winter 2021/22.
This position will serve a two-year term from July 2020 to July 2022. Between July 2020 and December 2020, the council member will participate in a minimum of four out of five online meetings (every month with the exception of August). During 2021, the successful candidate will participate in a minimum four out of six meetings (every two months), and between January 2022 and July 2022, will participate in a minimum two out of three meetings (every two months). The Council member should be plan to dedicate up to two hours between meetings to respond to emails and review documents.
Meetings will be held online and over the phone. The project will take place in the Yukon River Basin in Alaska and western Canada and North to the Arctic Ocean in Alaska.
The successful candidate will also be expected to attend a two-day Arctic Rivers Summit, currently planned as an in-person meeting to be held in Anchorage during Winter 2021/22. Travel expenses will be covered for Council members to attend the Summit.
The Council welcomes members of Alaska Native tribes, Yukon First Nations, and members of tribal organizations who serve these communities to apply.
