The Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory invites applications for a Research Engineer. This full-time, permanent position is open to U.S. citizens and will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Research Engineer will conduct fundamental and applied laboratory and field research studies in the field of geotechnical engineering, specifically with respect to cold regions, including the Arctic and Antarctic. The successful candidate will apply professional knowledge and experience in aspects related to cold regions infrastructure; execute demanding, high-visibility cold region research; and development programs on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and conduct geotechnical field and laboratory experiments, perform analysis of data obtained to determine validity, sufficiency, and applicability;
- Develop research and development activities, obtaining reimbursable funding for projects, possibly from multiple sources;
- Write and prepare various memoranda, reports, and the final study report assuring consistency and technical accuracy;
- Prepare briefing materials and present briefings on studies which may involve controversy or public opposition;
- Assist senior researchers in field and laboratory multidisciplinary engineering challenges;
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with agencies that fund research; and
- Coordinate interrelated projects and experiments.
