Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join the Physical Oceanography Department. This full-time, temporary position will be located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of a one-year extension and has a preferred start date is 1 March 2023.
The successful candidate will split their time working on datasets from the Pacific Arctic and Subpolar North Atlantic. For the former, the researcher will analyze a recently collected hydrographic/velocity survey of the Chukchi Sea to investigate various aspects of the shelf circulation and water mass distribution. For the latter, the researcher will analyze data from a mooring array across shelf/slope of southwest Greenland as part of the Overturning of the Subpolar North Atlantic Project (OSNAP) to investigate aspects of the boundary current system.
While the primary focus of the work will be in research, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the project.
Essential functions include data manipulation, writing scripts and using software, and writing manuscripts.
A PhD with previous experience working with shipboard and moored observational data is desired.
Applicants must know MATLAB and be familiar with CTD and ADCP data. WHOI has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy in effect, where you must register your full vaccination status (vaccination plus booster) in order to begin employment.
Applicants must have the ability to sail on a month-long cruise.
