The Navigating the New Arctic Community Office (NNA-CO) and the Alaska Pacific University (APU) invite registration for a new course, Arctic Research is Relationship - Exploring the Foundations of Collaborative, Community, and Indigenous-centered Arctic Research. This course will be offered during the fall semester through APU. Class will be held every Friday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Alaska Time via Zoom, from 22 September – 8 December 2023.
This is an advanced level course intended to create welcoming, respectful spaces, dialogues, and productive research collaborations with Tribes, Indigenous peoples, agencies, and organizations.
The goal of this course will be to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of challenges and the foundations of knowledge co-production, participatory research, and Indigenous-led and practical applications of scientific research within the broader context of a rapidly changing Arctic and increasing recognition of Indigenous knowledges and data sovereignty. The course aims to serve graduate students, early career researchers, as well as seasoned Arctic researchers. The course is developed in partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF) Navigating the New Arctic Community Office.
