Yankielun, P.E, Bert is an experienced and seasoned electrical engineer, involved in laboratory and field research, development, industrial and military engineering projects, and academics. In earlier years, this includes work was in the power and telecommunications industries. For over 25 years he has been involved in R&D related to civilian and military applications of electronic instrumentation for geophysical and environmental measurement and data collection. His research has produced over 25 patents and 25 significant referred journal articles. He has a reputation for creative, novel, and innovative solutions to measurement and instrumentation problems, and an ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts in a manner understandable to a non-technical audience in oral and written format. He has been part of numerous geophysical scientific expeditions to remote Arctic and Antarctic regions. He retired as an electronics research engineer from the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) and now frequently contracted by major consulting firms including SAIC and CTS. He has consulted for several govenmental organizations, including the U.S. Coast Guard, NASA and the U.S. Navy. He is the author of the nationally acclaimed book: “How to Build an Igloo…and Other Snow Shelters”, and instructs several snow shelter construction workshops each winter across New England.
