Astrid Ogilvie

DepartmentOrganizationEmailPhoneAddressBoulder , Colorado 80309United StatesBioAstrid Ogilvie's research focuses on environmental and climatic history, and human ecology in North Atlantic and Arctic regions, in particular Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Labrador/Nunatsiavut and Siberia. Her particular expertise is the analysis of primary historical texts (in English, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish). Further areas of interest include: the historical climatology of northern Europe; the reconstruction of historical sea-ice records, in particular Iceland; long term human eco-dynamics; the comparison, integration and syntheses of climate proxy time series; and changing seasonality in the Arctic. She currently leads three NSF-funded research projects, and is a Co-PI on several others, including Understanding Climate-Driven Phenological Change - Observations, Adaptations and Cultural Implications in Northeastern Siberia and Labrador/Nunatsiavut (PHENARC) recently funded by the NSF Arctic Systems Science Program (together with Susan Crate). In addition to her position as Research Fellow at INSTAAR, she is an Associate Faculty member of the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Colorado, and also holds Adjunct positions at Hunter College, CUNY, the Stefansson Arctic Institute, Akureyri, and the Climatic Research Unit, Norwich, UK. She will spend several months in Iceland in 2010 as a Fulbright scholar.
