He has developed algorithms and models for use in the retrieval of cloud properties, radiative fluxes, snow and ice characteristics, and tropospheric winds from satellite imagers. Current climate research focuses on trends in polar cloud, surface, and radiation properties, and the interaction between clouds and sea ice. Dr. Key is the Branch Chief of the Advanced Satellite Products Branch, NOAA/NESDIS/STAR, located at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). He is the lead for NOAA's GOES-R ABI, JPSS VIIRS, and GCOM AMSR2 cryosphere teams. He currently leads the implementation of the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW).
